- April 4th (with
bottling
night on April 18th).
- MUG CLUB NEW HOPS BREW-OFF - set for THIS Friday,
April 4th. We will be getting acquainted with some new hops via some
new recipes developed by "the boys" and some tweeked tried-and-true
recipes featuring these new hops. Thanks to this current hop crisis,
some hops have become nearly impossible to get and others are very
scarce. In the midst of all this, some new hops (new to us) are
coming to the forefront and it's time we learned something about
them. A BREW-OFF seems like the right forum for getting to know what
you can do with what's available to accomplish what you're looking for
in a brew. Plan on coming this Friday evening and enjoying the
company, conversation and brewing. We will begin around 5:30-6:00
with a potluck dinner. We will start kettles as soon as there are
people to work them. Sometime during "the boil" we'll have our
introduction to the new hops. Two weeks from Friday - making it the
18th - we will have the Brew-Off Bottling Party. There will be a
sign-up sheet on Friday for ordering your case(s). If you can't make
it Friday, call in your order so you're sure to get some! See you
Friday!

- Even as
Dennis was sweating and fussing trying to keep a supply of hops
available for brewing, he heard from any number of different
sources, "Sorry". Of course suppliers are sorry. They wish
they could fill their customer's orders. The crisis put lots of
"little guys" in a serious bind. Sympathy was everywhere but
real help was harder to find.
A Mug Club member, while searching for hop suppliers, came
across this link from the Boston Beer Company where they were
offering tangible, real assistance to exactly the "little guys"
who were feeling the worst pinch. Although we did not need to
take advantage of their generous offer, we commend the Sam Adams
people and their president Jim Koch for acting and not just
sympathizing. If you end of needing to have "store bought" beer
in your refrigerator, let us be so bold as to suggest Sam
Adams. These people have gone above and beyond the call to
help others deal with the hops crisis. Our brewing hats are off
to them. Thank you Boston Beer Company! You acted in the true
spirit of brewmanship.
